Quick Bites: Panera Bread

We are back with another installment of our Quick Bites series. Today, we are looking into Panera Bread. Known for its focus on all natural “clean” ingredients and having a transparent menu, it is a popular restaurant for those wanting to choose healthier options when eating out. I appreciate Panera Bread’s focus on removing artificial ingredients, sweeteners, coloring, and flavors to provide more wholesome food. But, just as we have learned by reviewing other places, it is still important to analyze the menu to determine the healthier options. As dietitians, our goal is to provide you the tools to make more informed decisions when eating out!

Adair Kitchen Review + a Giveaway!

We are back continuing our series of restaurants in Houston that promote a healthy lifestyle! We previously looked at Caracol and Dish Society, and today, we are reviewing one of my favorite places – Adair Kitchen! You will likely see my husband and I at Adair’s at least once a month. We love the food that they serve and have not had a bad meal there!

Quick Bites: Jason’s Deli

We have discussed healthier options to choose when eating out at Chick Fil A, Salata and Starbucks.  Now, we continue our Quick Bites series by looking at Jason’s Deli. Known for their healthier options and overall focus on removing trans fats and high fructose corn syrup from their menu, Jason’s Deli is a popular restaurant for those who wish to follow a healthier lifestyle. But, like any eating establishment, there are pros and cons to the menu, and some ‘not-so-healthy’ options can be consumed if you are not careful!

Quick Bites: Starbucks

We’re back with another installment of our series on making healthier choices while eating out and today we are talking about Starbucks. I am guilty of treating myself to a caffeine filled cup of deliciousness multiple times per week. This makes it even more important for me to make healthier choices each time I indulge so I’m not packing on the pounds!

The new law requiring restaurants to provide their nutrition information to customers on the menu has forced restaurants to revamp some of their menus and provide options for the health conscious consumers. Starbucks, along with many other companies seems to have realized there is a large customer base that is concerned with nutrition and only having pastries and coffee drinks in excess of 500 calories was not going to be suitable to their customers. These changes have been advantageous in that there are now a variety of healthier options available, and they are generally labeled making it slightly easier to make smarter choices while in the store.
