Laura Pearce MS, RD, LD
I was born in New Orleans, LA and grew up in the Houston area before graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences at Texas A&M University. After graduation, I was selected to be a dietetic intern at Texas Woman’s University (Houston Medical Center location). Over the next year, I completed that internship as well as obtained my Masters Degree in Nutrition. I am currently a practicing registered dietitian in the Houston area, and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as the Houston Area Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Since high school, I was confident I wanted to become a dietitian but my passion for nutrition evolved in college. Healthy and balanced eating as well as exercise was a priority in our home growing up, but I developed an unhealthy relationship with food my freshman year of college. The idea of preventing the ‘freshman fifteen,’ being on the dance team at Texas A&M and having overall little personal knowledge of healthy eating led to poor eating habits. Many times that year, I would try “quick fixes” instead of focusing on moderation and balance. As I grew in my knowledge of nutrition, I began to understand how food directly impacts the body and its performance. I never strayed from the field of nutrition during college, and wellness has always been a strong interest of mine. I am thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with Caitlin by using my passion to share reliable information with Healthy Bites Houston readers.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, including my husband David and dog Layla, traveling, cooking, trying new restaurants and taking Zumba classes.
Caitlin Ogletree MS, RD, LD
I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ where I attended the University of Arizona and earned my Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences. Upon graduation, I moved to Houston to complete my Master’s degree and Dietetic Internship. I currently work as a registered dietitian in the Houston area.
My interest in nutrition began in high school when I became more aware of health and nutrition and how my diet was truly lacking in real food. This also coincided with a new interest in distance running, along with my long time hobbies of volleyball and swimming. While this new diet and activity was a healthy change, it quickly spiraled out of control and I developed an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. This continued into college, though as I learned more about proper nutrition and became more occupied with the demands of college coursework, sorority events, and work, I slowly started to develop a more healthy approach to exercise and food. It has been a long, slow process to regain healthy eating habits, but now looking back, this experience has given me a new perspective. Focusing more on the nutrition food provides versus how many calories food has.
I have always desired to share my passion with others. Partnering with Laura to share my nutrition knowledge through Healthy Bites Houston was the perfect way to begin this new chapter in my career.
I currently reside in Houston with my husband, Casey, and daughter, Madison. I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, snow skiing, boating, working out and yoga.
