Product Review: Healthier Soda Alternatives

About a week and a half ago, I spent the evening with the Texas A&M Aggie Dance Team talking about nutrition and healthy eating. I always love the time I spend with them. I know from my time on the team during college how important fueling your body with proper nutrition is. One of my favorite parts of meeting with them is the questions they have for me. And, one of the most popular questions I received this year was regarding healthier soda alternatives.

Tips for Eating Healthy on a Budget

I have always been aware of the cost of food and my weekly grocery bill, but I had never paid too much attention to how much I was actually spending in any given month. For the most part, I shop once per week and plan my meals/snacks which helps keep the grocery budget under control. I had the occasional Costco trip, Trader Joes run, and those last minute grab a couple of things on your way home from work trips as well.

My husband and I have recently started actually budgeting to try to reign in our frivolous spending. When we were setting our budget for groceries for the month, I was more than sure the amount we agreed on would be more than ample. Well, we are only a couple weeks into this and I have already spent more than 60% of the budget for the month…and that was with trying to be a little more cognizant of spending! I have already learned a lot in the couple weeks we have been following our new budget, and have realized that I’m going to have to get creative for the last couple of weeks of the month if I’m going to stick to this predetermined budget we set! At first I felt discouraged, but to be honest, I’m now looking at it as a challenge. I have decided I’m going to get creative and do my best to stick to our budget without relying on cheap, processed foods to get us through! I plan to do a follow up post on how I end up faring, but for now I wanted to share some of my tips for eating healthy on a budget!

Food trends: What is teff?

Have you heard of teff before? Do you know the nutritional punch that this tiny grain provides? Today, we are back with another installment of ‘Food Trends’ to talk about teff. We previously looked at Pulses, Monkfruit and Sprouted Grains. You may be seeing this grain even more over the next few years, if you have not already. In fact, next time you are in the gluten free, grain or flour area of your grocery store, look for this product. Bob’s Red Mill carries their own version of the grain and flour, among other brands.

HBH Favorites from the Nordstrom Sale!

Happy Thursday! I just returned from London a few days ago, and it definitely took me a while to adjust back to the time and our schedule here {ok, let’s face it, adjust back to reality}! I posted a few pictures on Instagram of my time there – mostly of food, of course! We always enjoy traveling and trying the local cuisine, and this time, it was no different. Our first meal was Fish n’ Chips at a traditional pub. And, we spent quite a bit of time touring the Fortnum and Mason food hall. Have any of you been to London? My parents live there now, so I’m sure we will be making a few trips there!

While we were in London, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale kicked off, so I’m just now getting caught up looking over the great deals that are going on. While I love looking through the clothes that they are previewing for the fall, I love the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for the home and kitchen deals too. It’s like Christmas in July! Here are some of our favorite picks from the sale:

Week in Review & Friday Favorites 4.1.16

I can’t believe it is April already, this year is blowing by…and here we are with another edition of Week in Review with some Friday Favorites sprinkled in!

Saturday- We spent the day at Blessington Farms playing at Farm Funland, petting the animals, and even participated in an Egg Hunt. We had visited Blessington Farms once before to pick strawberries, but didn’t get to go to Farm Funland. It was a great way to spend the afternoon, and we left with some tired kiddos!
