Homemade Honey Vanilla Almond Butter

Nut butters are one of my favorite foods, especially when mixed with some type of chocolate!  I seem to have multiple servings of nut butter daily- a dollop in a green smoothie, a blob on my toast, a dip for an apple, or just by the spoonful! Nuts and nut butters are great additions to meals or snacks as they are rich in protein and healthy fats, which help to keep you satiated for longer.

We compared nut butters and found that many nut butters are relatively similar from a nutrition standpoint, so taste preference is really what drives what type of nut butter is for you! There are so many options at the grocery store these days, it can be hard to decipher which one is the healthiest or most cost effective choice. The solution? Homemade nut butters.

Did you know that you can whip up your own batch of nut butter in less than 5 minutes? Yep, homemade nut butter may seem like a daunting task reserved only for those with exemplary culinary skills, but that is definitely not the case! All you need is a blender or food processor, nuts, and any additional flavorings you may like! For this batch, I used roasted almonds, honey, vanilla and sea salt.


The process is simple. First, place the almonds in the blender or food processor, and blend until they start to get a creamy consistency. I have used a food processor in the past, which takes about 10-15 minutes to get the creamy consistency, and I recently have been using my Vitamix dry container, which took about 3 minutes to get it blended.



Once you get the creamy mixture, add in the wet/additional ingredients (honey, vanilla and salt). Blend until incorporated, and serve!



And taste test..of course!

Serves: 1.5 cups
  • 2 cups roasted almonds
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  1. Place almonds in high powered blender or food processor and blend until a soft creamy butter starts to form. Add in vanilla, honey and salt and blend until all ingredients are incorporated. Store in the refrigerator.
