Dish Society review + a Giveaway!

Trying different restaurants in the Houston area can be a fun way to gather with friends or family.  We are lucky to live in a city where there are so many cuisines to choose from.  A few months ago, we began a series highlighting local restaurants that promote healthier eating. We started with Caracol, and now, I am thrilled to review one of my personal favorites, Dish Society!

Dish Society is a farm to table casual restaurant with two locations in the Houston area (near the Galleria and in Katy). As noted on their menus and on their website, they strive to support the local agricultural community by partnering with and using local produce when possible. Dish Society has become one of our go- to places to eat at for breakfast, lunch and dinner! There are a variety of healthier options to choose from on their menu that will suit many different taste preferences. And, you don’t have to sacrifice your goal for a healthy lifestyle to eat out here!

Our most recent visit to Dish Society was to go for brunch with some of our friends. One of the best parts about having them there (besides their company) was the fact I had a variety of plates to review and a bigger group to give opinions.

A few characteristics set Dish Society apart from other restaurants in the city – one of them being their wide selection of gluten free and vegetarian menu items. The dishes that meet these criterion are visible on the menu, and in fact, I would say at least half of the menu is designated as gluten free or vegetarian. Check out the menus to see for yourself! Another aspect that I really like is how accommodating the restaurant is to requests you may have. Whether you want to build your own farmer’s plate, make adjustments to the menu items that you are ordering, or request for dressings, sauces or ingredients to be on the side, Dish Society is willing to do it all! For anyone who is following a healthier lifestyle, making these adjustments while dining out plays a huge role in how healthy your dish is!

I have quite a few favorite dishes at Dish Society, one of them being the Quinoa Stuffed Avocado. In fact, two of us ordered this dish (one with chicken and one without), and we both loved it! The dressing on the green salad is so tasty; I would recommend getting it on the side so you can spread the flavor all over your entree!

My husband got the Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich which is incredible! Make it healthier by requesting a lighter spread of goat cheese or having it on the side to add sparingly. Also, try eating half of the sandwich with the included pretzel bread and eat the other half bunless! You won’t miss the flavor of the bun with how incredible the chicken, pesto and goat cheese combination is.  For a side, he chose the natural sweet potato chips – so good!

One of my other friends chose the fish tacos and raved about how great they were! She tried both the flour and corn tortilla (gluten free) and said they were equally tasty. She requested her sauce on the side to control how much she ate with each bite.

For breakfast, there are a variety of protein rich options (such as build your own omelet or breakfast taco) in addition to their regular breakfast menu that would leave you full for hours. Another unique aspect to Dish Society is that you can purchase local Kombucha, Kickin’ Kombucha, to have with your meal.

Dish Society was extremely generous and donated a $25 gift card to one of our lucky readers to enjoy a meal there. I’m excited for one of you to experience the freshness and flavor of Dish Society! Enter below with Rafflecopter. This time, we are asking you to tag three friends on Facebook and/or Instagram, 1 entry for each tag! Winner to be announced Friday AM!
